Salat al-Tahiyat
Salat al-Tahiyyah (Mosque Greeting prayer) is a recommended two-rak'ah prayer performed upon entering a mosque, including Al-Masjid an-Nabawi and other mosques in Mecca and Medina. This prayer does not have a specific method and is performed like the Fajr prayer. The prayer is recommended in hadiths and it is described in hadiths as one of the rights of the mosque. . It is said that by performing an obligatory or recommended prayer, the recommended merit of Salat al-Tahiyyah is fulfilled , and performing Salat al-Tahiyyah is not necessary. Most Maraji' al-Taqlid have stated that Masjid al-Haram does not have Salat al-Tahiyyah, and its greeting is Tawaf.
Definition
Salat al-Tahiyyah is considered one of the recommended prayers that is performed upon entering a mosque with the intention of greeting and honoring the mosque.[1] It is said that if an obligatory, Qada (missed), or recommended prayer is performed upon entering the mosque, Salat al-Tahiyyah is considered to have been performed, and its virtue is attained; since the purpose is to honor the mosque through an act of worship to the worship of the mosque in terms of preserving its right.[2] Narrations from Prophet Muhammad(s).[3] and the Ahl al-Bayt (a)[4] recommend performing prayer upon entering a mosque.
Method of Performing Salat al-Tahiyyah
In fiqh books, it is stated that Salat al-Tahiyyah consists of two rak'ahs, similar to the Fajr prayer or Nafilah prayers[5] and does not have a specific method.[6] No Adhan or Iqamah is prescribed for this prayer and may be recited either aloud or silently.[7] and it is sufficient any surah may be recited after Surah al-Fatihah.[8]
In Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi
Performing two rak'ahs of Salat al-Tahiyyah upon entering Al-Masjid an-Nabawi is recommended.[9] However, the greeting of Masjid al-Haram is Tawaf around the Kaaba.[10] It is said that according to the majority of Shi'a jurists that Masjid al-Haram does not have Salat al-Tahiyyah; rather, its greeting is Tawaf.[11] Some believe that it is recommended to perform two rak'ahs of Salat al-Tahiyyah after entering Masjid al-Haram, and if the pilgrim performs Tawaf, there is no need for Salat al-Tahiyyah.[12]
Jamkaran Mosque and Sahla Mosque
A four-rak'ah prayer is recommended in Jamkaran Mosque is four rak'ahs, two of which are called Salat al-Tahiyyah. These two rak'ahs of Salat al-Tahiyyah are performed as follows: in each rak'ah, Surah al-Hamd should be recited once and "Qul Huwa Allah" seven times, and the Tasbih recited in Ruku' and Sujud should be performed seven times.[13]
Also, the most important act in Sahlah Mosque is said to be performing two rak'ahs of Salat al-Tahiyyah, which should be performed between Maghrib and Isha prayers.[14]
