Template:Infobox building The Cave of Banu Haram Mosque is a small cave located on Mount Sala' in Medina, Saudi Arabia. It is said that during the Battle of the Trench, the companions of the Prophet (PBUH) would take him to the Cave of Banu Haram at night to protect him from enemy raids, and they would descend from the cave in the mornings. This cave-like mosque is located about eight hundred meters northwest of Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. On top of the cave, there is a large rock resembling a house roof, and next to it, there is a small arch.

Location

The Cave of Banu Haram (Arabic: كهف بني حرام) was located near the residence of the Banu Haram tribe.[1] This cave is located west of Mount Sala' and about eight hundred meters northwest of Al-Masjid an-Nabawi.[2] This cave is on the right side of a person going from Al-Masjid an-Nabawi towards the Seven Mosques (via Tariq al-Sayh) and is in the area of Sha'b Banu Haram, near the Banu Haram Mosque.[1]

Prophet's (PBUH) Entry into the Cave

There are several narrations about Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) entry into the Cave of Banu Haram on some nights during the Battle of the Trench.[3] During the Battle of the Trench, the Prophet's companions (PBUH) would take him to the Cave of Banu Haram at night for fear of enemy raids, and he would descend from the cave in the mornings.[4] These narrations even sometimes refer to the revelation descending upon the Prophet in this cave, which may be related to times other than the days of the Battle of the Trench.[5]

Great Cave of Banu Haram

In contemporary research works, there are references to the existence of two caves on Mount Sala'. The "Small Cave of Banu Haram" is the one discussed in this article, and it has no human structures. However, it is said that the Great Cave of Banu Haram has two small domes and is located on the eastern side of Mount Sala'.[6] The Great Cave of Banu Haram is one of the places about which historians have many disagreements and various reports. The Great Cave of Banu Haram is also known today as "Masjid Banu Ghaffar" or "Dakkah al-Sheikh Jalal".[7]
